There are many variable factors in relation to high bills including:

  • Length of the billing period - How many days are we billing for? Check that they are comparing bills with the same number of days in a previous billing period.
  • Seasonal conditions and hotter/colder weather - Heating your home in winter and cooling your home in summer increases your energy usage. Try avoiding air con/plug in heaters and clothes dryers as they are high energy users.
  • Extra people in the household - having people over for the holidays can increase your bills. School holidays/illness could mean that more people are at home, increasing energy usage
  • Hot Water - Reducing the amount of time spent in the shower and washing clothes in cold water could reduce consumption throughout the year. Also consider a water saving showerhead
  • Appliances - Recently purchased new or larger models appliances? These could be using more energy. Are there any faulty or old appliances? Again these could be using more energy.
  • Recently Moved - new homes might be larger or less energy efficient
  • Concession cards have we missed this when setting up a new account?

LPE only bill from reads we've received from the meter - we are not able to tell how this power has been used. If you are concerned that something internally is using more power than it should please contact an Electrician. They will be able to test the factors contributing to your internal consumption and provide informed feedback.

If you feel that your meter may be faulty or want further information on high consumption, please contact our Customer Service Team on 1800 040 168 or send an email to billing@localityenergy.com.au
